Political Stockholm Syndrome in the U.S.

PunkJohnnyCashI sat on the couch last night reading Fear and Loathing on the Campaign trail 72 and the words of the great Doctor Thompson once again touched me. Not in that Dirty old drunken Uncle Sam way where you feel his warm breath on your back as you fearfully prepared to be violated, but in that spiritual eyes opened awakening kind of way. Who would ever want to be in DC? I lived there for a while, and the city is wonderful. Baltimore is wonderful. The East coast is a unique place, but to live and work in the Den of Harlots that is our legislative branch, who would want that? What does it offer?

These are Dogs. They are the worst types. These people who want to go to this place and live their life in conflict and turmoil. Don’t tell me they do it for us. I know and you know perfectly well they do it for self gain. Money, power, and influence. These are megalomaniacs. Now here is where you republicrats fall short. You think that the one that blows smoke up your ass and tells you what you want to hear is different. We all can look at these guys voting records and see otherwise. You all think that the one you voted for cares about you, and is not a greedy bottom feeder. That is wrong. That is more idealistic, naive, and foolish than anything I have ever promoted or proposed.

We seem to expect to leave the power and decisions in the hands of the wolves and expect that to be good for the people? We can’t trust a few corporations that government has empowered, but we can continue to give power to that same government who in turn gives more power to those corporations. Isn’t it time to shake these bastards off from around our necks and look at governing on levels that we can control? Why look for powers that become so powerful and cumbersome that the left hand doesn’t even know that the right hand is doing? This is somehow going to fix the problems and avoid the abuse these so-called corporations are guilty of. This abuse is not going to happen there? Putting all the power, control and wealth under one roof just makes the abuse and corruption and self-interest more centralized and those that would abuse power will now have more of that power to abuse.

To say that is unlikely is to say that we don’t really need air to breathe. Only the most vicious cut-throat villains are able to do what it takes to even achieve that power and reach those offices. To say they will not abuse and exploit is to ignore reality and the history of American politics.

Do we have a collective Stockholm Syndrome? what the hell are we supposed to do?  Do we live our lives ruled by the tyrants? No! if we begin to reel power in, make governing more local and personal we are able to accomplish more. If we only have to change on a state/county/city or neighborhood level then we begin to have real power. We are able to go out and make real changes for the better, and the corrupt are more easily defeated. Why is there such a desire to give so much power to so few rich white men? Why do we thing the only salvation humankind has is in the hands of this Patriarchy?
