What President Obama has done right

obama-official-photoThe vast majority of what George W. Bush and Barack Obama have done I have opposed.  They like most politicians are big government statists.  I want to write this quickly to point out what I did agree with the current administration on.  It seems there is anger and hatred that clouds judgment.  I feel that I often only attack what the politicians do wrong, but the little steps they take in the right direction needs acknowledgment.  The media has failed us here and we have failed.  Would a politician be more inclined to give us more of what we do want if they received some positive feedback?  I do not know.

I oppose the war on drugs.  This is not to say I use drugs or even believe that the use of drugs is wise.  I do however believe that the whole war on drugs is a waste of our money and needs to end.  Drug addicts have a problem.  They need their family and friends to help them and possibly doctors or 12 step programs.  Many drugs can be destructive.  Some are not as damaging as alcohol.  I believe that the White House policy to honor a state’s decisions on Medical Marijuana is a step in the right direction.

I believe in volunteerism, and feel that if Americans would stand up and address the issues around us we would eliminate the use of most government.  Volunteerism can and should replace all forms of social welfare.  The neo-cons like Glenn Beck have spoken against the new Push from the White House towards volunteerism.  I am frankly glad they choose to push volunteerism instead of taking money from us to start wasteful fraudulent bureaucracies.   We have plenty of those.  The country is starting more of those.  We need an embrace of volunteerism to replace government institutions.

I remain unhappy with most everything that is going on today in the White House aside from that, but I do want us to look at where steps in the right direction have been made.  Two steps forward with ten steps backward can be discouraging, but it’s better than ten steps backward with no steps forward.

Then I suppose you've pushed to amend the interstate commerce clause since the War on Drugs simply wastes money, no?

    No.

@Ninja R I have never claimed the constitution to be the holy word of God. I believe it has problems. The interstate commerce clause is used to hinder free-trade. We can point out countless examples of how bad regulating commerce is from the East India Tea Company to Tire Tariffs. Roosevelt liked it though, It goes well with New Deal politics.

Volunteerism being pushed by the federal government may have been a great thing back in, let's say, the 1940s and 50s but under this administration the problem with it is that there's an agenda behind it. And that agenda isn't in the best interests of this nation. It's in the best interest of the Obama administration and his "friends." From here it's up to Americans to make volunteerism their agenda and not one driven by the federal government.

As for giving states their rights back concerning drug laws and marijuana…of course it's a good thing. But, again, there's the agenda behind it. I wouldn't believe it to be true until something solid, like a bill, is passed without extra federal 'agenda-driven' conditions. Because, right now, they're only words and the words of any politician alone are not believable.

No, you didn't claim it. It wouldn't be true anyway. Regardless of how many countless examples you can mention, you also didn't answer my question.

…because that's exactly what it'll take at the federal level (which is what your post alluded to) — a Constitutional amendment.

@Ron Why does it matter if it is 1950 or 2009? Every politician has an "agenda". Were Eisenhower and Truman without agendas? What is the agenda you are referring to?

@Ninja R I thought stated my stance on it. Would I push to amend? No, at least not any time in the near future. Would I support an effort to amend? Yes I would. My support would be more focused on creating a free market, drugs would be a small benefit.
