NEWS & NOTES : YOUNG VIEWERS CHOOSE WINNERS IN ANNUAL NICKELODEON AWARDS.(L.A. LIFE) in our site keenan and kel

Daily News (Los Angeles, CA) March 7, 1997 Byline: Keith Marder Daily News Television Writer Fresh off his Grammy win for Best Rap Solo Performance, rapper/actor LL Cool J was the only star to receive two nominations in Nickelodeon’s 10th annual Kids’ Choice Awards.

Beginning Friday, kids will be able to vote on each of 16 categories in four different ways: on the air, online (America Online, keyword: Nick), at McDonald’s and through a promotional partnership with Kraft Post Kids’ Cereals and Kraft Singles.

LL Cool J was nominated in the categories of Favorite Television Actor and Favorite Singer.

Past winners Whoopi Goldberg, Jim Carrey, Whitney Houston, Tim Allen, Tia and Tamara Mowry, Brandy, Roseanne, Rosie O’Donnell, Robin Williams, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal and Kristi Yamaguchi were nominated again this year.

TV’s “Home Improvement,” Michael Jordan and Boyz II Men are in the Kids’ Choice Hall of Fame.

Keenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell (“All That,” “Keenan and Kel,”) will host a two-week on-air voting campaign during SNICK (Saturday Night Nickelodeon) beginning April 5. Votes on AOL will be accepted between March 31 and April 13.

“Leaving L.A.,” a drama based on the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, will begin its run at 9 p.m., and “Gun,” another new weekly drama, will follow at 10. “Gun” follows a pistol and chronicles the weapon’s life from incident to incident.

Beginning that same night, the 8 p.m. Saturday slot preceding “Leaving L.A.” will be filled by Lois & Clark,” which is moving from 7 p.m. Sundays. ABC says it will announce a Sunday replacement shortly.

“Dangerous Minds,” which had occupied the 8 p.m. Saturday slot, ends its season on March 15. ABC’s “Saturday Night at the Movies” will be placed on hiatus to accommodate the changes.
