Corporatism and disregarding the law of the land
Jun 3, 2009 Corporatism, Politics

Lagomorph13 brought a USA Today Editorial Piece to my attention via twitter. We see what is happening to the country with the Banks and car companies being bought and run by the government, but to call it socialism is getting little attention from those on the left. They still seem unable to see what is going on here. The article suggests we call it Corporatism, which seems to be an even more accurate term for what is happening. The Cato Institute points out the thriving success of China as they move closer to a free market, and our downfall as we move further from this in an article “GM’s Nationalization and China’s Capitalists” which is a good read. With all this said I wish to push my two cents on to these ideas and what is going on here in the U.S.
It is my desire to reach out to Republican and Democrat Statists alike to show them what it is they seem to be blinded from seeing. Republicans have been rallying behind liberty concepts when it is convenient for their statist view. This is seen by their support of the Tea Parties and their utter disdain for others personal liberties. One of the most obvious examples of this is the Xenophobia and inability to understand anything outside of their little white suburban world. This is demonstrated with their complete disregard for the Constitution, most specifically the 14th amendment with the introduction of H.R. 1868 the Birthright citizenship Act of 09.
My first point goes mostly to the so-called Left, and their efforts to disregard Capitalism. They claim that the problems within the economy are from Capitalists who were left to a free market and took advantage of people etc… Nothing could be further from the truth. They often claim that Greed is the problem and some how giving all this power to government to regulate we will eliminate greed. The ideals here are flawed. Yes greed can be bad in capitalism, but that is if we had a free market. We did not have a free market. The flaw here is the idea that concentrating power at a higher level with more control will not eliminate greed, it will just give the greedy central power more ability to do what it wishes. We seem to assume these bureaucrats will be lofty and great when it comes to regulating and avoiding corruption and greed, which is the furthest thing from the truth. They seem to feel they are above the law as demonstrated by their disregard of the law put in place to restrict them with H.R. 1868. We see this as racism, and xenophobia. The right justifies this with the concept that people are coming into the country illegally, so in order to respond to the non-citizens action the government should in return break the law in order to deal with someone who has first done so. This is not right. The age old saying “two wrongs don’t make a right” applies.
Now we see the little power given has been taken extreme with one zealot move. With giving all this power over our Money, Banks, Car Manufacturers, and Health Care over to the Government we are essentially trusting all these aspects of our lives and country to one centralized power. How would you on the left like to see Dick Cheeney in the Office in four years after turning so much over to him, giving him absolute power over your life?
This is Corporatism, and the corporate head seems to be corrupt. This is scarry stuff. By opposing these evils of corporations we have concentrated and expanded them. The answer is never to hand over liberties and freedoms in the name of a quick fix, or temporary safety. These liberties once handed over will have to be fought for in order to get them back. We are handing our freedom over to the state in a great big sweep of corporatism. The government is out talking up their new car companies and banks by telling us how great of an investment their cars will be by their warranties and what not. This is nothing more than government becoming a great big marketing department for it’s new businesses. This is not good.
