America suffers from a severe addiction to a drug called Easy Money. It can be smoked, snorted, or directly injected into the veins of the economy, but the effect is the same: an artificial high that feels great, promotes over-indulgence, and perverts our sense of risk. As with any narcotic, though, the artificial high is followed by an all-too-real low, exhibited by pain and suffering. Over time, more and more of the Easy Money drug is needed to reproduce the same highs and prevent the lows that follow, until we ingest more than we can handle. Right now, the economy is overdosing on Easy Money, and the prognosis does not look good.
Government & Phillip Morris Corporatism at it’s finest
Sep 28, 2009 Corporatism, Politics, Senate
Well, here we go. After last weeks tobacco story, (Click here to read it) I have read more that has upset me. Phillip Morris wanted to look good so they decided to go with a fresh new name that sounds appealing. Instead of being Phillip Morris the largest big tobacco corporation, they are Altria, the do-gooders who spent 3.9 million in lobbying (Click here) and co-wrote the new tobacco flavor ban. If you look at this for a minute, you begin to see who paid for this and who benefits. The largest of the “big tobacco” corporations just eliminates massive competition via legislation. The only flavor they offer is menthol which is the flavor protected under the law. I’m starting to see how this legislation helps children. We get rid of the competition. We make more money. We buy legislation to achieve this. We pay our representatives. We profit from being one of the last products on the shelves. I see how that was for the kids.
Government Knows Best: Smoking Bans
Sep 23, 2009 Corporatism, Politics, PunkJohnnyCash Blog, Senate
Despite the absence of evidence to support many claims and actions in the bill as seen here, we have gone forth with the massive control of tobacco. It is simply a massive assault on your liberties. Those out there that believe they should force others to live in the manner they wish them to live are not going to agree with anything here because they feel that the world should be re-shaped in their image. These are often the tyrants that try to use outrageous claims of children dropping dead to support their bigotry. So to those left wing bigots out there, I have little interest in your hatred and demented desire to dominate. I am not going to claim that smoking is healthy or good for you. I will say that the first time we have a child dying of second hand smoke he’ll be all over Oprah & truth.com commercials.
Here is what is going on around the web today about all this:
The FDA is practically threatening people who want to find ways around this. Click here to read The Wall Street Journal Article. It’s almost childish. Don’t do it! No! I’ll get you if you do! Mom! tell him to stop!

Dirty Old Uncle Sam is a Glutton
Sep 22, 2009 Corporatism, Current, Politics, Senate
I wanted seconds on dinner, but Dirty Old Uncle Sam who was on his thirds told me I was being greedy.
Those Right Wing conservatives can see it from time to time. Michelle Malkin put up a post about the Stimulus.
Click here to read Senate Votes To Keep Spending Millions On Stimulus Signs.
I saw some of those signs on the highway. Every time I pass them I can’t help but think of how tight things have gotten with my wallet, and how with my cutting of spending Dirty Old Uncle Sam is just turning into a bigger glutton. This “stimulus” has only made government wealthier, and grown government. If we haven’t noticed, unemployment is still on the rise. How disconnected are these fools in congress and their mindless zombie hordes?

A case against government Part 2: Migration
Sep 21, 2009 A Case Against Government, Philosophy, Politics, history
(video at bottom)
Are freedoms determined by birth alone? The issue of immigration is based on biases, and prejudices no matter how subtle. This is not to call pro-state controlled immigration advocates “racist” but mostly unaware and misinformed. It is also a tendency for those individuals to claim to have anti-statist views or small government views which are compromised by their support of the state in this area in an attempt to keep out the others. This is the typical us vs. them conflict once more.
Welfare! No Free Lunches! Work Hard get far! Immigrants are leeching off the welfare system! All rubbish. That is right, all of these battle cries of the Neo-Con and conservative right are rubbish. “But Punk Johnny Cash!” you scream, “you support the abolition of welfare, social security, Medicaid, Medicare, and any government assistance whatsoever, how can you say such things are rubbish?”

A case against government Part 1: Police State

We have to have government. Who would protect us if we didn’t have police? Right? I keep hearing these questions and claims. The Supreme Court blew holes in those arguments when they decided it was not the job of the police to protect people. If you have a hard time with believing that then just check it out yourself Click here. So we know the police are not there to protect us, but they are there to enforce laws. What laws do they enforce and why? Well we know they enforce the laws that enable them to demand money from law abiding citizens. This is what happened to Fire Chief Don Payne, who spoke out against the extortion racket his town was running. When the federal government and state budgets run short police stations find ways to get the funding they need from citizens. We hear about it on the news and around town and in Jericho.

McCaskill & The Federal Reserve
Sep 9, 2009 Federal Reserve, Politics, Senate
I recently wrote McCaskill about the Federal Reserve. She always responds at least with a mass mailer, and that is what I got today in my e-mail. I thought I would post the letter for all to read here:
September 9, 2009
Dear Mr. PunkJohnnyCash
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Federal Reserve (Fed). I appreciate hearing from you, and I welcome the chance to respond.
As you know, the Federal Reserve has been active in U.S. monetary policy and bank regulation since it was established in 1913. Its decisions regarding interest rates have a significant impact on inflation, growth, and other aspects of the economy.
Recently, the Federal Reserve’s emergency powers, enumerated in the Federal Reserve Act, to lend in “unusual and exigent circumstances,” have caused some concern. The Fed has taken several actions, such as issuing guarantees on short term corporate debt (also known as “commercial paper”), providing inter-bank loans, and further providing a substantial amount of credit to institutions like AIG that are in danger of failing.
