Something Scarry For Halloween

One of the most frightening things this Halloween is that Peter Schiff & Ron Paul are called the crazies and are not listened to and Ben Bernanke is in charge of the country’s currency. When we look at these videos I ask you why on earth would Bernanke be in charge on anything and why would Schiff or Paul be marginalized.

Peter Schiff Was Right

Health Care:

From Liberty Maven: Ron Paul, a hypocrite on the health care public option? (Click Here)
According to the “Left Wing” Democrat party if you do not vote for health care you must be a hypocrite. Well, not really. I do think the hypocrite list may have some weight, but to lump the one guy who has repeatedly refused Medicaid and Medicare in there seems off.

Gallop polls are showing that current Health Care legislation is loosing support (Click Here)

And Finally NancyPelosi has introduced her own health care bill. (Click here)

Health Care “Reform”

Written by Trey Sellers

surgeonsThe health care debate is still in full force, and while there is strong support and opposition to the reform being proposed in Washington, we can all agree that health care costs are a burden on a large portion of American families. The important point to realize, though, is that the legislation being proposed is simply more of the same, an expansion of the status quo. The health care industry is rife with government intervention in the form of subsidies and over-bearing regulation, so it’s hard to understand how the proposed legislation, which calls for an enormous amplification of that intervention, can be heralded as “reform” or “change”. Ten years down the road, when health care costs continue to spiral out of control, health care “reform” supporters will be scratching their heads, wondering why their solution didn’t work, and pounding the table for the government to come to the rescue.

Does the Existence of the State Cause Conflicts of Interest?

provided by Wilton D. Alston

congressMy phone is tapped. My mail is read.
They know the thoughts inside my head.

The money I deposited
is now reported to the Fed.

They chip my hand, dispense my bread.
I think they watch me go to bed.

I don’t object. I’m glad instead
to be controlled until I’m dead.

- G. Edward Griffin, from “It’s All for My Security

As I listened to a classic speech from Murray Rothbard, entitled, “The History of Taxation” something he said struck me. (Often, when listening to Rothbard, this happens.) He mentioned the obvious connections between people who worked inside the banking elite and those who worked, or seemed to work, outside of it, in the regulatory realm. There seemed to be, at that time and now, a cross-pollination between the two bodies, even though one is supposed to oversee the other.

The Afghan War: “Why and to What End?”

US Troops in Afghanistan

US Troops in Afghanistan

A Washington Post article today makes an account of a Marine Corps Captain, Matthew Hoh, who resigned his post in protest of the war in Afghanistan. He states:

“I have lost understanding of and confidence in the strategic purposes of the United States’ presence in Afghanistan…I have doubts and reservations about our current strategy and planned future strategy, but my resignation is based not upon how we are pursuing this war, but why and to what end.”

I find this story heartening. After 8 years, thousands of American soldiers dead or wounded, and hundreds of billions of dollars spent in Afghanistan, we have accomplished virtually nothing, and have in fact, made our political situation in the Middle East much worse. Unfortunately, our interventionist foreign policy will likely keep us there for another 8, or even 80, years. War is a great tool for controlling people, confiscating both their wealth and freedoms. I would like to see more military men and women stand up for America and her interests in the manner that Captain Hoh did. I do not blame our soldiers for America’s destructive foreign policy, but the simple fact remains that their compliance with it makes America’s pursuit of this type of interventionism possible, and with it, individual liberties in America are eroded away daily.

Big Government Corporatism In Free Market Clothing

talentI write this for fear of the return of Big government Republicans in 2010.  Republicans are saying Free Market and doing the opposite.  I fear who they will support, and I fear who will follow with their votes.

Big Government Cronies are going to preach the Free Market so they can expand Corporatism.  This is the plan of the Republican party.  Here in Missouri we are seeing our former Senator Jim Talent Start to change his vocabulary to get back his power and wealth at the expense of freedom.  He started a website with a freedom movement friendly name Freedom Solutions, American Freedom and Enterprise Foundation.  This is really just a Neo-Con attempting to present old failed Neo-Con Bush politics with a new paint job.

From 1993 to 2001 Jim Talent was in the House.  In 2002 he was elected to the Senate and stayed there until 2007.  The only reason the guy can claim he did not Vote for the Latest bailouts and TARP is because for that short one year period he was out.  Jim Talent was one of those sloppy big government Republicans who got us here.

The State Marriage and Homosexuality

gay-couple-utah-weddingSome issues I take a stance on that may not be a pro or con.  I am neither pro-choice nor pro-life in the abortion debate.  It seems that debate is too complex to take a stance on either way.  The religious right would say that I am pro-choice in my personal views and the far left would say that I am with the pro-life camp.  I do however believe that it is not an issue for the federal government.  That is my only official stance on the subject.  I do not believe the Federal government can make those decisions for us.  I am not writing about abortion however.  I am focusing on homosexuality and marriage.

I am an extremely liberal individual at times. I am not speaking of liberal in the sense of the statist Democrat party verses the statist Republicans.  I have liberal stances on many things.  This however is not something that I feel belongs in the political arena.  If one is liberal or conservative that is fine, it can be a person’s choice.

What President Obama has done right

obama-official-photoThe vast majority of what George W. Bush and Barack Obama have done I have opposed.  They like most politicians are big government statists.  I want to write this quickly to point out what I did agree with the current administration on.  It seems there is anger and hatred that clouds judgment.  I feel that I often only attack what the politicians do wrong, but the little steps they take in the right direction needs acknowledgment.  The media has failed us here and we have failed.  Would a politician be more inclined to give us more of what we do want if they received some positive feedback?  I do not know.

I oppose the war on drugs.  This is not to say I use drugs or even believe that the use of drugs is wise.  I do however believe that the whole war on drugs is a waste of our money and needs to end.  Drug addicts have a problem.  They need their family and friends to help them and possibly doctors or 12 step programs.  Many drugs can be destructive.  Some are not as damaging as alcohol.  I believe that the White House policy to honor a state’s decisions on Medical Marijuana is a step in the right direction.

NFL or NBA?

Provided by Trey Sellers (with a special thanks to Steven Theising)

During the past year…

  • 36 have been accused of spousal abuse,
  • 7 have been arrested for fraud,
  • 19 have been accused of writing bad checks,
  • 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses,
  • 3 have done time for assault,
  • 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit,
  • 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges,
  • 8 have been arrested for shoplifting,
  • 21 currently are defendants in lawsuits, and
  • 84 have been arrested for drunk driving

Can you guess which organization this is? The NBA? Or the NFL?

Give up yet?

Neither. It’s the 535 members of the United States Congress, the same group that cranks out hundred of new laws each year designed to “keep the rest of us in line.”
